Workshop for journos on national security issues

PRESS RELEASE: The Madras-based Press Institute of India (PII) is conducting a two-day workshop for journalists on reporting national security issues. To be held in conjunction with the Bangalore-based institute of contemporary studies, the workshop will be held at the Christ University in Bangalore on January 30 and 31. The registration fee is Rs 3,500.

Entries invited for Best Article Competition 2010

PRESS RELEASE: The Press Institute of India (PII), in association with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is inviting entries for the “3rd PII-ICRC Best Article Competition 2010″.

“If you think you have written and published an interesting article on humanitarian issues linked to a situation of armed violence, please do send a copy with complete details to editor.pii@gmail.com or mail it to Press Institute of India, RIND premises, second main road, Taramani CPT campus, Madras 600113,” reads a press release.

The first prize is Rs 50,000, second prize Rs 30,000, third prize Rs 20,000.

Entries, published in Indian national or regional newspaper magazine between January 2009 and April 2010, should sent before 15 July 2010. Only one entry per journalist is allowed.

Award for reporting on victims of armed violence

The Press Institute of India and the International Committee of the Red Cross have announced the creation of the PII-ICRC awards for reporting on the fate of victims in situations of armed violence.

The article, or a series of articles on a single theme, should have been published in an Indian national or regional newspaper or magazine in any Indian language (with translation) or English.

Entries may be sent to editor.pii@gmail.com or posted to Editor, Press Institute of India, RIND Premises, Second Main Road, CPT Taramani Campus, Madras – 600 113 on or before August 30. Phone 044-22542344 for further details.

Three cash prizes will be awarded and presented in the last quarter of 2008 in New Delhi.
